Stage 2: Determine Acceptable Evidence.

Performance Task (Summary in G.R.A.S.P.S. form): (T)
Goal: Your group task is to convince Al Gore that a band or performer of your choice is the candidate to play or perform at the the Live Earth Concert on 8.8.08, a concert to raise awareness of global warming, consumption of fossil fuels and alternative energy sources.
Role: You are a band management company or a talent agency executive board.
Audience: The Entertainment Committee that chooses the bands and performers for the show (other students in class)
Situation: The challenge involves educating your band or performer about the concert and all the things that it is trying to raise awareness about. You have to teach the person or band ways they can conserve energy; how they can help promote the awareness of global warming, consumption of fossil fuels and alternative energy, and how they can be role models for other touring bands or entertainers in helping the environment.
Product, performance and purpose: You will create a persuasive: PowerPoint, iMovie or a radio show that convinces Al Gore's Entertainment Committee why your band/performer is the best candidate. All must include a pamphlet or handout that helps raise awareness of global warming and consumption and your sources.
Standards: Radio Show - creativity, accurate information, convincing evidence, reliable sources, good audio/recording quality, collaboration with peers and at least 5 simple ways to improve the environment.
iMovie - Creativity, accurate information, convincing evidence, reliable sources, sound/video clarity, collaboration with peers and at least 5 simple ways to improve the environment.
PowerPoint- creativity, accurate information, convincing evidence, reliable sources, smooth slide transitions, spelling and Grammar, collaboration with peers and at least 5 simple ways to improve the environment.
Presentation: Speaks Clearly, Time-limit, Posture and Eye Contact, Content and Convincing Evidence.
Other Evidence (quizzes, test, prompts, observations, dialogues, work sample, etc.):
Other Evidence (OE)
• Lab: Fossil Fuels, alternative energy and consumption
• There will be three blog entries for the unit: a pre-test/what-do-you-think blog, evaluating their carbon footprint.
• A blog where they analyze an alternative energy and if it would be beneficial for the state of Maine.
• Garage Band recording describing an art form that relates to how humans interrupt the carbon, nitrogen, energy and water cycles.
• Wiki space web site creating a study guide of earth cycles.
• Digital representation of a brochure from a web quest. They must use the web to teach the world about consumption and climate change
• Inspiration will be used to create an persuasive essay outline for a debate regarding alternative energy
• iMovie about pollution, ozone depletion, green house effect, fossil fuel consumption and alternative/renewable energy.
Student Self-Assessment and Reflection
Self-Assessment (SA)
Students will self asses after every product. They will do it either through blog or on the rubric they are given. If there is a question on the rubric, that is the form that self-assessment will come in. If not, they will self-assess using blogger. All students will reflect on their participation in a group and their contribution to the learning community.

Through what authentic performance task will students demonstrate understandings?
Task Description: (T)
You are a band management company or a talent agency executive board and you have to convince Al Gore's Entertainment Committee, for the Live Earth concert on 8/8/08, that your band or entertainer should be on the bill to perform. To be eligible for the nomination, you must show ways your artist(s) is helping the environment by conserving and using less energy, using their celebrity to raise awareness of global warming, fossil fuel consumption and alternative energies. You will then create a PowerPoint, iMovie, or radio show that persuades the committee that you are the best choice for the performance and educate them on what your artist(s) is doing to help the environment. You will then present this to the class and you must have a handout or pamphlet that is attractive and lists the main points of your project and your sources. This will be given to every member of your class.
